Fix audio and video problems

What to try when people can't hear or see you, or you can't hear them.

Nobody can hear me

  1. Check that Mute isn't red.
  2. Select the arrow beside it and pick the microphone you're using.
  3. Open More, then Settings, and watch the meter under Audio while you talk. If it doesn't move, your browser or computer may be blocking the microphone.
  4. To unblock it, select the icon at the left of the address bar and allow the microphone. Then check your computer's privacy settings:
    • Windows: Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone.
    • Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.

I can't hear anyone

  • Check your computer's volume, and that the right speaker or headphones are chosen. Select the arrow beside Mute to switch.
  • Select Test speaker in Settings, under Audio, to play a short sound.

My camera doesn't work

  • It says it's in use: another app, often another meeting app, is using it. Close that app, then turn your camera on again.
  • It's blocked: allow the camera from the icon in the address bar, and in your computer's privacy settings, as for the microphone.

People hear an echo

Wear headphones, or move away from your speakers. Keep Noise suppression on Strong or Standard.

Video is choppy, or it says "Reconnecting"

  • Close other tabs and apps that use the internet heavily.
  • Turn off Send HD video in Settings, under Video.
  • If it says Reconnecting, FaceOn is getting you back. Stay on the page.
